The Cosmic Owl - Print

The Cosmic Owl is a mesmerizing art print by Dena that beautifully marries the ethereal wonders of deep space with intricate, organic design.

Unlike traditional illustrations where the background is added last, Tullis inverted her process for this piece- but not on purpose, it truly was a doodle that decided to Go Big Or Go Home. The background happened first, drawing heavy inspiration from the swirling, vivid gases of the Rainbow Nebula. Once the nebula's brilliant gradient of colors washed across the page, Tullis let her brain and pen run wild. She allowed the pre-existing cosmic shapes to dictate the flowing lines of the owl which per her signature is made with a stained glass effect, organically building the creature out of the chaos of the universe.

Dena's love of art nouveau shows up in the border, featuring elegant whiplash curves and stylized lines. Seamlessly embedded within the composition are the phases of the moon, which arc gracefully around the owl to symbolize time and cosmic rhythm. Finally, delicate Cosmos flowers accent the borders and base, blending their celestial name with an earthly softness that perfectly grounds the vast universe theme.
